It’s a common question: Why does the Bavarian Oktoberfest take place in September? The event stems from the wedding of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese of Sachsen-Hildburghausen in 1810. The festivities went on for a week, from October 12 to October 17. The event was so well-received that the festival was repeated in following years just for fun. Then it was brought forward into September, for no other reason than the weather was better. Munich at the end of September often provides a pleasant, mild Indian summer – wonderful Oktoberfest weather.
