Lola Waterman is a first-generation American lawyer. Losing her father to gun violence,
coupled with her volunteer experience in a shelter for domestically abused women,
inspired her to attend law school. After graduating from New York Law School, Mrs.
Waterman was in private practice for many years before going into public service as a
law clerk to a Supreme Court Justice within the Unified Court System in Brooklyn. She
volunteered as a Small Claims Court Arbitrator in Kings County Civil Court and as a
Special Referee for matrimonial matters in Kings County Supreme Court.
Mrs. Waterman is a member of several bar associations, including the Metropolitan Black Bar
Association where she is a Board Member and chairs the Community Outreach & Pro
Bono Committee, and the Brooklyn Bar Association where she serves as chair of the
Access to Justice Task Force. Attorney Waterman gives back to her community by
hosting legal clinics and organizing “”Know Your Rights”” seminars. She is married to
Reverend Dr. Robert Waterman of Antioch Baptist Church, Brooklyn, and is the mother
of three beautiful girls. Her personal mantra is “”education is the great equalizer.”” She
was elected as a Civil Court Judge in 2023.
