Keith Bennett was born and raised in the Borough of Brooklyn N.Y. He attended Elmira College where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology with a minor in Business. Upon completing college, he joined the Department of Education as a Health and Physical Education teacher in 1985. He returned back to school a few years later to get a Master’s of Science Degree in Guidance and Counseling in secondary education. For the past 35 years he has served as School Counselor in Elementary, Middle, and High Schools throughout the Crown Heights, Flatbush, and Fort Greene communities. During his time in the school system he has found time to coach and referee basketball games. However, his greatest contribution and achievement has been mentoring young men. In 2008 Keith, with the help of several like-minded men, formed the Brothers Building Bridges Mentoring/Leadership Organization. Over the past 15 years hundred’s of young men has had the opportunity to receive guidance, wisdom, and leadership from men who volunteer their time each week in an elementary school. Keith is proud of the work he has done thus far in supporting young men and their families but he knows there is so much more work to accomplish.
Keith resides in the Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood where he and his wife of 35 years have raised 2 children, Omari and Afiya. In his spare time Keith enjoys playing basketball, refereeing basketball games, playing softball and cycling. He hopes to one day become a Life Coach and Mental Health Practitioner.
