In some new homes, nearly every surface – from the floor, to the fireplace, to the kitchen countertops – is smooth, seamless, and cool to the touch. That’s because these surfaces are covered in non-porous microcement, a composite a blend of cement, water-based resins, and mineral pigments. The product has been popular in Greece, Spain, and other parts of Europe and only started to gain traction in North America in the past five years or so. According to some people, watching it being applied is like watching someone pour icing over a giant cake. While it looks like concrete, Microcement is a lot lighter, with each layer being only about three-sixteenths of an inch. Get more info here.
