Eli Northrup has been working at the Bronx Defenders since 2015 where he handles both felony and misdemeanor cases and is the Director of the Policy Team for the Criminal Defense Practice. In 2022, after working on the campaign for marijuana justice in New York State for a number of years, he helped to launch The Bronx Cannabis Hub, a resource for New Yorkers interested in applying for licenses with legal support and education to enable them to build generational wealth long denied by the failed War on Drugs.
Prior to joining the Bronx Defenders, Eli served as an E. Barrett Prettyman Fellow in the Criminal Defense and Prisoner Advocacy Clinic at Georgetown Law School, handling misdemeanor and felony cases in Washington D.C. Superior Court and supervising third-year law students. He attended Cornell University and graduated cum laude from New York University School of Law where he was a Fellow in The Arthur Garfield Hays Civil Liberties Program. Eli is running for New York State Assembly in the 69th District which encompasses the Upper West Side and Morningside Heights.
